If at any time you are worried for your well-being or physical safety or the safety of your children you may be able to stay at one of our emergency shelters in Niagara Falls (Nova House) or Welland (Serenity Place). Contact our crisis line at any time and a counsellor will be able to discuss a stay in one of our shelters.

Either of our shelters can be your safe place where you can find comfort, get your bearings and consider how to move forward from here.

Our team of dedicated, trained Women’s Intervention Advocates will help to empower you in your struggle to overcome abuse.

In addition to providing you and your children with temporary accommodations and meals, all in complete confidence and free of charge, we will provide you with information about abuse and help you explore your options as you seek to make the choices that are right for you.

Along with other shelter residents, you’ll be able to participate in interactive life skills sessions offering practical assistance, emotional support and help in developing the skills you’ll need to explore different courses of action and make a fresh start.

You’ll also have access to all of the other client services we offer: help with addressing employment, financial, housing and legal concerns; as well as child and youth services, individual and group counselling.

Depending on your situation, you may need help planning for your ongoing safety.

We’ll do our best to provide you with what you need and refer you to other community agencies that specialize in the various transitional services you might require.

After you leave the shelter, we’ll provide follow-up support, helping you to press on in your journey toward health and hope.

Remember, abuse-free living is a vision worth pursuing. With our support and your determination, you too can achieve it, one step at a time.

Last-Minute Tips

If you need emergency transportation to one of our shelters or a list of what to bring (assuming you have time to pack) or help in planning a safe departure, simply call our 24-hour crisis line at one of the telephone numbers shown elsewhere on this page.

We will arrange emergency transportation if necessary and help you sort out any other concerns.

Even if you don’t feel that you need emergency shelter right now, keep our crisis line number handy in case an emergency should arise.

What are Transitional Services?

By transitional services, we mean anything that will help you make a smooth transition from your present circumstances to your new, more positive future. Your present reality could be staying at one of our shelters or being in an abusive relationship. Your future reality, we hope, will be living a positive, independent, abuse-free life in the community.

Women’s Place is committed to providing barrier-free access to our residential and outreach clients. If you require accommodation when accessing any of our services, please let us know. Both of our shelters are wheelchair accessible.
